Stewardship

In this new year, our stewardship theme will be "Blessed to Be A Blessing."  You will see this slogan on the mailing envelopes and it will become the theme for the letters that you receive each month.

The concept is really quite simple.  We have been blessed by God not only so that we can enjoy those blessings but also that we might share what we have received with others.  God does not intend for us to hoard our blessings or to keep them for ourselves.  We are asked to share them with others.  When we pass on the blessings to others, the benefit of the blessings is multiplied.

The first step is to become aware of all that God has done for us.  Our daily physical needs are met.  We have reasonably good health and adequate health care when we are sick.  We are surrounded by a community of people who are ready and willing to help us.  We are well fed.  (Perhaps to well fed sometimes!)  And we have a meaningful faith heritage that give us courage and hope even when the world seems to be falling apart.  Keep going!  How else has God blessed us?  The list could be endless.

The second step is to discover ways to share our blessings.  The most obvious way is to share our financial resources with those less fortunate but there are many other ways to share.  Here are just a few.

      1.  By regular and special giving through the church.
      2.  Speaking a word of hope or optimism when those around us are discouraged.
      3.  Offer forgiveness when we are wronged.
      4.  Visit the lonely or invite others into our homes.
      5.   Use our strength and talent to benefit those around us.

The list could be endless.  Imagine all the ways that you might become a blessing to others.

......to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
